ACCESSIBILITY

INTRODUCTION

THE GORDON ARMS Restaurant with Rooms is an old historic coaching inn dated in 1800-ies and nestling in the beautiful Yarrow Valley near St Mary’s loch in the Scottish Borders. It was a favourite haunt of James Hogg, Sir Walter Scott and even Robert Burns was said to have stopped here. We have five en-suite comfortable rooms.

PRE-ARRIVAL

MAIN ENTRANCE AND RECEPTION

The reception is immediately to your left when entering the main entrance. There are two chairs in the lobby. The reception desk is 93 cm high. To the right of the reception is the ladies toilet and down to the hall is the staircase to the rooms. It’s a spiral vintage staircase of 15 steps to the first floor, where are the rooms are.

There is a ramp for wheelchair access at the entrance door to the restaurant bar and toilets. The Bar is located to the left and back of the main reception. There are no steps on route. The Restaurant is located right to the right of the entrance door. There are no steps on route. The floor surface throughout the ground floor is wood.

PUBLIC AREAS – WC

There two accessible toilets on the ground floor with the following: wide entry door, the floor is tiled. There are two further sets of public toilets, male and female.

RESTAURANT, BAR AND PRIVATE DINING ROOM

The Restaurant is situated to the right of the main entrance door. It has level access and is open plan with wood floor. It has low level tables with four legs and a fireplace. Light is mainly natural daylight as there are large windows.

The Bar area is situated to the left and behind the reception. It has level access. The floor is wood. It has four tables with a fireplace. Table service is offered. Lighting is mainly natural daylight as there are large windows overlooking the road entrance to THE GORDON ARMS Restaurant with Rooms. Evenly distributed lights are on when required.

The Private Dining Room has level access and is table service only. It has four Chesterfield sofas.  Lighting is mainly natural light from the large east facing windows (2) and west facing window(1). For the evening meal lighting is low level with candles on the table and dimmable lighting. We are able to cater for varying dietary needs, please advise staff upon booking.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS

There is no bedroom which provides specific facilities for guests with disability. Flooring in bedrooms is short pile carpet. Flooring in bathrooms is non-slip tiles. There are anti-slip bathmats in all bathrooms.

We have a set evacuation procedure, for basic information – Alarm bells are a continuous alarm. All front of house staff have regular training which includes disability awareness training.
